Week One

Darrin had a GREAT first week at his job in San Antonio! He's spending his mornings in the warehouse getting a feel for the products and what the guys do there and then spends his afternoons learning his new job of inside salesman. He's really enjoying it and has some fun coworkers. His outside guy Robert and his family have really gone above and beyond to make us feel welcome in our new city. They invited Darrin over for dinner one night last week and shared their cable with him (because the cable and internet had not yet been set up at the apartment.) He even had to golf for work on Saturday afternoon - this has GOT to be his dream job! :) :)

I had a busy 2nd to last week getting caught up on projects that I've been trying to complete at work and trying to look online for jobs in SA in the evenings. I did get a chance to go out and ride horses one evening with Mom and Kaity, which was so peaceful and relaxing! I'll miss things like that when we're 2 1/2 hours away. :( It's sure been fun living with my family like "old times" but I reallllllly miss my husband and wish he was here with me!!

Because someone had to be home for the cable/internet setup on Saturday, I went back to San Antonio to spend this last weekend with Darrin. I put about a million more holes in the walls of the apartment (nail holes from hanging pictures) and a few holes in the bank account, checking out the area shopping while Darrin golfed. Then we went to dinner with Robert and his family at Spaghetti Warehouse. On Sunday we went around looking at some nearby shops and had a great lunch together before I started packing to head back to Bryan again. Sunday was tough to leave again, but this is our last week apart and then we can finally live together in our new city!! We're definitely looking forward to next week! We did have to miss Martha's birthday on Saturday, but it's probably a good thing I wasn't there when she opened her new Nook that Perch got her...I might have tried to steal it!!!! ;) Sounds like Perch did a great job of making it a special day for Martha. HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY MARTHA!!! :) :)

I can't wait to get to SA next week, live with my husband, and start job hunting and getting to know our new place. I've already got 2 people I'm supposed to meet with when I get there, and I'm signed up to go to a career fair on Thursday! We're even planning to go visit a new church next weekend!!! :) This is such a new and exciting chapter in our lives! We are so blessed to have been given this opportunity and feel so confident that we are following God's will for our lives!

Off to a great start!

This is the post I tried to put up last Monday (7/12), but it gave me lots of trouble so it's going up now instead:

Wow what a weekend!! THANK YOU to our wonderful parents for sacrificing their time, homes, schedules, vehicles, and muscle power to help us make this big move possible! We absolutely COULD NOT have done it without them! We're fairly settled in to our new -GORGEOUS- home in San Antonio!!! We arrived at 9:40 pm on Friday night, and by 10:30 pm had a 16 ft moving truck, Darrin's truck, and 2 Expeditions completely unloaded and 2 beds setup and made! We spent Saturday unpacking and putting things away. Our moms went to town on the kitchen while I ran around trying to unpack and being sidetracked by one little project after another. Darrin and our dads went to pick up the [nearly] new washer and dryer we found on Craigslist (which, by the way, is becoming my favorite "Garage Sale" website EVER!) and installed it. By Saturday afternoon we were in pretty good shape. We even got some pretty patio furniture and pink hibiscus flowers to make it look like home from the minute you drive up! My family had to head home Saturday evening, but Darrin and I went to dinner with Martha and Eric at La Margarita's. I already love the food and culture in this city!! We spent the rest of Sunday unpacking and doing a little bit of decorating. We’ve got a lot to do still, but here are a few pictures of our little work in progress (with a few extras from the weekend thrown in the mix)...

Unfortunately, I had to leave to come back to Bryan last night (unfortunate that I had to leave Darrin) because I still have 2 weeks left at my job. I’ll be staying with my family for the next 2 weeks – my poor dad will have 5 women in his house again!! Please keep us in your prayers during this transition. Darrin is starting his new job, we’re going to be apart, and we’ll be racking up quite a few miles over these next 2 weeks! And the adventure begins…

No, I did not fall off the face of the Earth...

...:) We've just been slightly occupied over the last few weeks. The last month has been full of chaotic fun and excitement. Where to start??

Well, about a month ago we put our apartment up for sublease and in a matter of a week and a half we had the papers signed. Why sublease? Because Darrin has been going through the interview process for a couple of jobs, one of which is in San Antonio. We decided that it would be best to try and get someone to sublease just in case and if we didn't leave town we'd just get a different apartment. A little over a week later, we were contacted by someone who was interested and in a matter of 48 hours we subleased (this was June 18) - and had to be out by July 1!!!

The next week (June 22-27) was our trip to Dallas for the Texas State Amateur Championship Tournament (that's golf.) Darrin's friend Adam was playing and Darrin got to caddy for him. We had a wonderful time hanging out with the Anthonys in Dallas and watching the guys have fun out on the golf course. The trip was short lived, but it was a wonderful getaway from the everyday routine, and a great opportunity to spend time with our sweet friends. While we were there, Darrin got the call offering him the job in San Antonio. We had until the following Monday (June 28) to make a decision and get back with them.

On Monday morning last week, Darrin accepted the job in San Antonio, I gave my "two weeks notice" at my job (really 4 weeks, my last day is 7/23), and we began to frantically start packing. Sunday (since we were already planning to move either way), Monday and Tuesday we packed and moved like crazy. Thanks a BILLION times to our parents and my sisters (& their boyfriends) who came over for HOURS Sunday, Monday, & Tuesday and moved us out of the apartment from start to finish! We will certainly return the favor when your times come!! By 11pm Tuesday night, Darrin & I had officially completed what I've affectionately named, "Operation: The Big Invasion." Us, Chloe & Soot, all our furniture, and box after box after box have moved in and completely INVADED Martha & Eric's home. Wow, thank y'all so much for letting us do this!!!!!!!

We decided that the new apartment would have to be settled on quickly. Wednesday morning, Darrin got up early and drove to San Antonio with a list of our top 4 favorites (from our online hunt) to find our new home. Martha kindly took the day to go along and provide a little female input (thank you, AGAIN!!!! :) ) and by that afternoon we had the papers signed and the deposits paid for a beautiful and spacious new apartment home in San Antonio!!! (I won't say on the blog, but feel free to email me for our new address and the location!!)

Wednesday and Thursday we had our last rehearsals for the big Freedom musical and Friday and Saturday was Abby's wedding weekend fun! The wedding was absolutely gorgeous and so perfect! I was SO honored to be such a special part of their day and am so happy that the Lord brought them together. Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Cowley!!!!! I love yall!!!!

Sunday was a little bittersweet. This has all been happening so quickly, but it was our last day with our Sunday School class together, our last choir rehearsal (and our last big event with the choir), and our last day in Central as members!! After 22 years, that was awfully rough for me! :'( The musical went great and it sure was a great way to end our time here. And my Hubby did an AWESOME job on his solos!!! :)

So after 2 weeks of excitement I'm finally taking a second to stop and update you, and then get some SLEEP! :) We are so excited, thrilled, anxious, a little bit nervous, but most of all feeling very fortunate to have the opportunity that's before us now. We are so confident that we are finally in the Lord's will 100%. Things have worked so smoothly to make this transition possible and everyone has been so supportive, helpful, and encouraging. The only piece left in this puzzle now is to find me a job in San Antonio. (The whole one job thing just doesn't seem to intimidate us like it did 8 months ago. :) We can totally handle this!) We are ready to take this huge leap and start a new, independent life, in "our very own city". We will miss our families and friends here in Bryan (and my job!!) so much, but we know that we will build a new life that we love just as much once we arrive in San Antonio.

So after we move Darrin to SA this weekend I'll update with some pics of the new place (that I haven't even seen yet!!) and I'll be counting down the days until I get to move over there where he is. (Oh yeah, I'm going to move back in with my padres for a few days to finish things here at my job, while Darrin goes on to SA to start his new job!) Please keep us in your prayers as we embark on this totally new journey together!!! ... and we'll keep you posted!

Love,
Darrin & Jamie
